Council is planning to build a new multi-deck car park in Cabramatta’s bustling and vibrant town centre.

Councillors voted at the November Council meeting to build the new 220-space car park at the corner of Hughes Street and Dutton Lane.

The new car park connects to the existing multi-deck car park with access to a new lift and pedestrian connection to the existing Dutton Plaza lifts. The proposal includes bicycle and motorcycle parking in addition to the car parking, bringing the total number of parking spaces in the Dutton Lane precinct to 992.

All of the car parks on the site will operate under the same timed and paid system – prices starting at $2 for the first two hours.

Improvements to the information signs are planned with advice for motorists on available parking brought forward to the Hughes Street frontage for the convenience of drivers.

Council expects the new car park will cost $10million. This is on top of the $20 million Council recently spent on the development of Dutton Plaza, which includes 275 parking spaces.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the new car park will be a big win for nearby businesses, residents and shoppers.

With more than 1,300 off-street car parking spaces provided by Council in the Cabramatta town centre, in addition to the 1,600 on-street spaces nearby, Council continues to support the economic health and ongoing vibrancy of the town centre.

“The current Dutton Lane precinct has a parking turnover of 1.1 million per year. With the addition of this new car park, we expect to provide an additional 350,000 parking spaces per year,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Cabramatta continues to grow in popularity as a destination for food and shopping. It draws in people from across Fairfield City and Greater Sydney.

“We have listened to local residents, businesses and shoppers who have all told us that they want convenient access to parking in the Cabramatta town centre so they can get on with their daily lives with minimal fuss.

“This car park will go a long way to supporting shoppers and businesses in this popular destination.”

Work on the new car park is expected to commence in mid-2019 and take approximately nine months to complete.
