On Monday 12th of November, newly-elected Northern Midlands’ Mayor Mary Knowles commenced her new Council role in impressive style – hosting Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC and Mr Richard Warner on a municipal tour. Mayor Knowles is only five days into her first term as Mayor and was delighted to be able to show Her Excellency and Mr Warner a small sample of the Northern Midlands.
“Her Excellency devoted a full day out of her busy schedule to the Northern Midlands and had the opportunity throughout the day to view some of the finest locations and met with a variety of community members and organisations within the Northern Midlands. I found it an excellent introduction to the protocols, procedures and pleasures associated with my new role of Mayor” Mayor Knowles stated.
The tour included the award-winning Norfolk Plains Medical Centre, an Eskleigh community group home, a community organisation expo, the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company, Adams Distillery, the majestic gardens at Strathmore, John Glover’s Cottage at Deddington, and ended the day with a civic reception at Gallery 81 in Campbell Town attended by a variety of members of the local community. The civic reception also included the formal Declarations of Office by incoming and re-elected members of Council.
“High achievers and residents of the Northern Midlands who devote countless hours of their time to volunteer organisations and community groups to ensure their communities are vibrant and sustainable gathered at the reception to immerse Her Excellency and Mr Warner in true Northern Midlands’ warmth and hospitality” Mayor Knowles continued.
“During the reception, our Councillors were sworn in with a ceremony conducted by General Manager Des Jennings. This was an incredibly special time for our re-elected and incoming Councillors to have Her Excellency present. My sincere thanks to the Council staff who organised the tour with only a few days’ notice, and ensured the tour unfolded smoothly and stayed close to time. I know the Governor and Mr Warner carried away many fond memories of the day – as well as a number of samples of the Northern Midlands exquisite agricultural products to savour back at Government House”.
