Livingstone residents encouraged to prepare for weather fall out from Severe Tropical Cyclone Owen

Severe Tropical Cyclone Owen is currently in the Gulf of Carpentaria and is anticipated to track back along the Queensland coast over the next few days, with the main impact of this weather event anticipated to reach the Capricorn Coast on Sunday.
Council’s Local Disaster Management Group is currently on precautionary alert and will move to full preparation mode at 8am tomorrow morning.
Mayor Bill Ludwig, Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group said weather reports indicate the Capricorn Coast will receive heavy rainfall, high winds and potential flash flooding.
“It is important for the community and businesses to make early preparations in the event STC Owen cyclone reaches the Capricorn Coast,” Mayor Ludwig said.
“Residents should begin preparing their properties now in anticipation of the predicted high rain fall and locally destructive winds.
“The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that this is a fast moving system, with the most significant rainfall and winds occurring Sunday before clearing quickly to the south.”
The Local Disaster Management Group will continue to closely monitoring the situation.
