Water restrictions return to Capella

Capella residents will be praying for rain as Level 2 water restrictions are imposed on the area until further notice. Garden drip systems may still be subject to allocated watering days and times.
Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said the restrictions were vital to preserve future water supply in the area.
‘Raw water dams have dropped to a combined capacity of 25 percent, necessitating the restrictions in accordance with the Water Supply Safety and Reliability Act (2008),’ he said.
‘With no water harvesting opportunities from Capella Creek, we have no option but to move to Level 2 restrictions.’
Level 2 restrictions include the following conditions:
Sprinklers must not be used at any time. Hand-held hoses, watering cans or buckets can be used at any time. Micro-spray and drip systems fitted with timers may only be used between 7.00 pm and 8.00 am. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for odd-numbered houses. On Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays for even-numbered houses. Lawn areas must not be watered at any time.‘These restrictions will remain in place until further notice,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘Let us hope that we receive a much-needed top up of water reserves in the coming days and get our share of rain to green the lawns for Christmas.’
