Gallery of Modern Art brings new interactive program to Charters Towers

The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) brings the interactive project APT9 Kids on Tour to more than 100 regional art galleries, libraries and community centres across Queensland, including stops at Ravenswood and Charters Towers.
This free program will be facilitated in Ravenswood on Monday 14 January and in Charters Towers on Tuesday 15 January through to Friday 18 January.
The program will run concurrently with QAGOMA’s exhibition ‘The 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT9) and APT9 Kids.
“Developed by our specialist team of QAGOMA curators, APT9 presents some of the most exciting and important contemporary art being created in the region, including major new commissions designed for the Gallery’s signature spaces”, QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said.
APT9 Kids on Tour invites young visitors to explore and experience diverse contemporary art styles and approaches from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. It includes the EXPLORE interactive, a virtual experience featuring contemporary artworks in the APT9 exhibition.
The program highlights key themes from APT9, including the preciousness of life and natural resources, the importance of community and storytelling.
Councillor Graham Lohmann, from Charters Towers Regional Council, said “it’s great for children in regional areas to engage in activities they wouldn’t normally get to experience.
“These activities are specially designed for children and families, enabling our communities to experience key elements of the original exhibition in our region.”
APT9 Kids on Tour is offered as a free program to regional Queensland and Torres Strait communities through the Gallery’s Regional Services department.
