Important community space moves closer to construction

Anticipation is building in the Mount Compass community as Council move toward the construction of the Mount Compass Recreation Park. Council’s procurement process for construction of the park has been taking shape over the last three months, having gone out to tender on the Masterplan in September.

Mount Compass has seen some much needed investment in infrastructure over recent years, with the construction of a wastewater system, main street revitalisation, the formation of a wetland and walking trails, installation of an Adelaide Hills Symposium Sculpture and the new IGA development off Victor Harbor Road. This strategic vision is set to continue into 2019 with commencement of the Mount Compass Recreation Park.

Council will focus on delivering the masterplan’s most desired elements in 2019, as identified during community consultation including a skate park, BMX track and nature play space. As tender estimates received were greater than the allocated budget, options will be presented and considered by Council in early 2019 to facilitate an outcome that best meets the needs of the Mount Compass community in-line with its capacity to fund the project.

The masterplan for the park underwent significant consultation and successfully secured external funding from the State Government (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure) with the assistance of David Basham, Member for Finniss. The current budget incorporates state funding of $300,000 and a Council contribution of $402,500.

Council remains committed to delivering the communities vision and core elements for the park in all options being presented to Council. The location of the new park is within the Council owned reserve between Anderson Court and Waye Court, Mount Compass.

Alexandrina Council Mayor Keith Parkes is pleased the residents of Mount Compass will soon benefit from the exciting play space. “We fully appreciate the importance of the recreation park to our Mount Compass residents. We have listened to their ideas and opinions during the consultation process and together with our newly elected members, will ensure this is reflected in the final delivery of the park. We are continuing to inform key partners including Member for Finniss, David Basham. ” he said.

While the start date is not confirmed at this stage, Council’s endorsement of the project’s budget will move the project forward for its eagerly anticipated commencement in the new year. It is expected to take four to six months to complete.
