Council Works – Week ending 14 December 2018

“For the week ending 14 December, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have been assisting water and wastewater staff in the repair of water and sewer services throughout the Lithgow area. This has included works in Hill Range Crescent to isolate water mains, repair of burst services alongside the Great Western Highway and repairs to sewer services at Wrights Road and Roy Street Lane.”

“In conjunction with the water and sewer service repairs, both Council’s urban and rural works staff have been seeing to the repair and improvement of stormwater drainage infrastructure”, said Mayor Thompson. “In particular, drainage improvements have commenced at 138 Bells Road, Lithgow, Ganbenang Road, Kanimbla, Lake Wallace, Wallerawang and Commonwealth / Portland Lane, Portland.”

“Lastly, as is common in summer months, where possible staff have been attending to roadside slashing throughout the Lithgow local government area”, said Mayor Thompson. “Brays Lane, Wallerawang, access to the Wolgan Tip and Pipers Flat Road have been targeted with further work scheduled to occur before Christmas.”

“Over the last few months, Council have been receiving higher than average numbers of complaints regarding road conditions, particularly in our rural areas”, said Mayor Thompson. “With limited resources, unpredictable weather conditions and over 1,000km of road assets in the Lithgow area, it is important that Council’s engineers prioritise works in accordance with their condition, level of use and location. While it is unfortunate, this may result in delays even though Council three grading teams are being fully utilised. However staff continue to monitor the condition or reported assets and if required, will reprioritise works schedules accordingly.”
