The unsung heroes of the Moree Plains are set to be recognised in this year’s Australia Day Awards for the Moree Plains, with Council calling for nominations.
Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries encouraged residents to support the 2018 awards and nominate individuals and groups that have made a significant contribution to the Shire.
“Community groups and volunteers are the backbone of our Shire and vastly improve the liveability of our region with their tireless efforts.
“The process for nominating a group or individual is fast and simple, yet can make a real difference to the person or group that is nominated, as far too often their contributions to our wonderful community are not duly acknowledged,” said Cr Humphries.
Nominations can be made in the following categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event/Group of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Group/sport Group of the Year, and a new category of Environmental Citizen of the Year which has been added to the list for 2018.
Nominations forms are available from Council’s customer service offices in Moree, Mungindi and Boggabilla, at the Moree Big Sky Library, HERE or by contacting Moree Lions Club on (02) 6752 1226. The 2018 Australia Day Award nominations are open until 5pm on 7 January 2019 and should be sent to Moree Lions Club, PO Box 119, Moree.
The winners of each category will be announced on Australia Day. Keep an eye on Council’s website and Facebook page for more Moree Plains Australia Day awards and event information.
