Free Family Sunday Fundays kicking off!

It’s the hottest time of year and once again Cessnock City Council is offering the Sunday Family Fundays at our local pools.

Starting from next Sunday 23 December, 2018 residents will gain free entry between 10am until 6pm, to Cessnock Pool, Branxton Pool and Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre (KKAFC).

The Fundays are on over the Christmas school holiday period and run until Sunday 24 February. Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said this was a success last pool season.

“It’s great to see to many local take advantage of the Fundays and experience the great facilities we have on offer for our community. No doubt we’ll see soaring temperatures this summer and the pools will be the perfect way to cool off on a Sunday.”

An inflatable fun park will be popping up a different locations throughout the period. To find out when and where keep an eye on our website. Please note extra fees and charges will apply for use of the inflatable fun park.

Pool users are also reminded to follow the direction of pool staff. This pool season Council has teamed up with Royal Life Saving NSW to introduce the new national Keep Watch at Public Pools Water safety awareness program locally.

The initiative is about improving children’s safety through improved parental supervision. The message is clear, while lifeguards are on duty at our aquatic facilities they are watching lots of people at the same time. Parents and carers are being urged to be vigilant and supervise their children during a visit to their local pool and make certain their child is safe.

Children aged between 0 to 5 years will be issued a yellow wristband and pool staff will advise that a parent or carer needs to be in the water within an arm’s reach of the child at all times. It is recommended that for a child aged between 6 to 10 years, a parent or carer needs to be actively supervising at all times and dressed ready to enter the water.

A big thanks to Belgravia Leisure Centre who operate KKAFC. They are also supporting the Keep Watch program. To find out more about our local pools visit www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/sport/pools.

Please note on Sunday 20 January and Sunday 24 February the Cessnock Pool will be closed to the general public from 8am to 4.30pm for swimming carnivals.
