East Gippsland Shire Council advises that work on two infrastructure projects in Marlo and Orbost will temporarily stop on December 21, before restarting on January 7 for an early New Year completion.
The drainage and road pavement project at Willis Avenue, Marlo, is progressing well with all underground drainage construction completed. Excavation and preparation for new kerb and channel is underway and will be completed on the east side of the road prior to the Christmas shutdown.
Work on the $500,000 Australian Government Roads to Recovery-funded project started in September and should be completed by February 2019. The project involves installing underground drainage and sub-surface drainage, constructing kerb and channel, batter earthworks, pavement reconstruction and sealing works.
Willis Avenue will be restricted to local traffic only during the holiday period.
Meanwhile, construction of new kerb and drainage along Forest Road, Orbost, is nearing completion.
An old section of existing kerb and channel along Forest Road (between Tarra and McLeod streets) was identified for replacement by council and included in the 2018-19 $41 million capital works budget.
Work will temporarily cease on the project between December 21 and January 7. The project will be completed in mid-January.
Council received $150,000 in funding from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program for this project.
Work on both projects are being carried out by Eastern Gippsland Road Maintenance Pty Ltd on council’s behalf.
