A total of 200 Campbelltown City residents will become new Australians in time for Christmas when Council hosts two citizenship ceremonies on the one day at Campbelltown Civic Centre on Wednesday, 19 December.
This day will involve 100 residents being naturalised at each ceremony and ensure they will all become citizens before the festive season and are able to make overseas travel plans during the holidays and pursue any tertiary education enrolments.
Council hosts citizenship ceremonies regularly over the course of the year for local residents who have applied to become Australian citizens through the Department of Home Affairs.
The two citizenship ceremonies will bring the total number of people to 850 to become Australian citizens in Campbelltown City this year.
“Becoming an Australian citizen is a very special occasion in a person’s life,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“We decided to host two ceremonies in December so the residents who will become naturalised are able to enjoy the opportunities and benefits of being an Australian citizen,” Cr Brticevic said.
“Their citizenship will be finalised before Christmas so they can then enjoy this special time with their families and friends as our newest Australians,’’ he said.
Cr Brticevic officiates at all of Council’s citizenship ceremonies.
“It is a great honour to confer Australian citizenship to people who appreciate and honour our values and who want to make Australia their home,’’ he said.
The residents who will become Australian citizens were born in countries including Zimbabwe, the Philippines and India.
