Bald Hill Park in Clarinda will soon be home to Melbourne’s second permanent 9-hole disc golf course.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the course will provide opportunities for community members with every level of fitness to take part in a fun activity.
“Disc golf is somewhere between playing frisbee and golf where participants throw a round disc towards a hole and hope to score a hole in one – or at least par,” said Cr Oxley. “It is a fun, friendly activity that suits people of all ages, fitness levels and abilities.”
Council has approved Bald Hill Park for the Disc Golf Course, following public consultation and a ‘Come and Try’ day at the site. Once the course is installed sometime in 2019, Council will set up a trial system to loan discs for public use, through the Clarinda and Westall Libraries, aquatic centres and the Clayton Bowls Club.
“These City of Kingston branded discs will be available to loan for free, to allow community members to participate in disc golf and try out the Clarinda course,” said Cr Oxley.
Introducing a Disc Golf Course in Kingston is consistent with Council’s recently endorsed 2018 Sport and Recreation Strategy as well as the Kingston Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, both of which seek to encourage informal recreation opportunities.
“Council is committed to supporting opportunities to get involved in low-cost and unstructured sporting activities, and disc golf is a great way to have fun and stretch your legs, without having to pay any fees to be a member of a club,” said Cr Oxley.
