Thanks to the generosity of those in the community who donated to this year’s Salvation Army Christmas Appeal hundreds of families in need will enjoy a happier Christmas.
Salvation Army Pastor Mark Schatz was overwhelmed by the generosity of Shire staff and residents when he came to collect the donations from the Shire office.
He said the Salvation Army would be helping more than 2000 people in need this festive season and he was grateful for the Shire’s donations which would give hope to Australians battling tough times.
He said hampers of food and toys would be delivered to households this week in time for Christmas.
Pastor Mark has undertaken a number of projects this year since coming to the South West from Kalgoorlie these include;
The building (currently under construction) of a showering and washing facility, where those in need can visit and have a nice hot shower and wash their clothes, a simple task we all take for granted. Homelessness prevention program, where a fulltime person visits towns from Harvey to Bunbury to Margaret River seeing how they can assist people to stay off the streets. This may include making a mortgage repayment or paying a bill for someone injured or out of work. Thrift Shop run by the Bunbury Office staff – Supplying very cheap clothing and food to customers. The shop gives away free of charge about 20 percent of donations. The Thrift shop is a separate arm to the Salvation Army Stores.The Salvation Army is happy to speak to anyone in need and is always happy to work with communities to see if there are any programs they can offer to help where social issues exist such as drug prevention programs.
