Funding boost for Wagga Road works

Mr Aplin said the $2 million grant from the Growing Local Economies Fund will enable the completion of Stage 2 of the road and streetscape upgrades to the Lavington CBD which will benefit businesses already located in the area and may encourage additional business growth in the precinct. Albury City Council is contributing over $2.5 million to the project.

Mr Aplin said “Road and streetscape upgrades to Lavington CBD (Albury) between Kaylock Road and Barlow Street are Stage 2 of a major upgrade that aims to improve economic and social conditions in the Lavington CBD. The project will deliver major improvements to the streetscape, amenity and community safety.

“This project comes off the back of Albury City Council’s Lavington CBD Masterplan which was prepared as a response to an economic downturn and decline in business conditions along Wagga Road,” Mr Aplin said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the project is one of seven new projects that will receive Growing Local Economies Fund grants this month, to kick-start or reignite regional NSW economies.

“I congratulate Albury City Council on this funding win and look forward to seeing how this funding will bring benefits for local contractors in the short term and the growth it will provide businesses in the region in the long-term,” Mr Barilaro said.

“In the 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW we clearly said we would direct investment into infrastructure to support key industries for regional communities like the Albury electorate.

“It is initiatives like this under the $500 million Growing Local Economies Fund, along with once-in-a-lifetime investment of more than $4 billion through the Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund and around $9.5 billion committed or reserved for projects in regional NSW under the Restart NSW fund that show the NSW Government is making regional NSW a great place to work, play and thrive.”

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack thanked the Government for its support.

“This funding will enable the finishing touches to be applied to a really important project that will help to drive an exciting future for Wagga Road businesses and the wider community,” he said.
