Furever homes needed this Christmas

​​​Local residents are being encouraged to check out the pets available at the City of Canterbury Bankstown’s animal shelter, if they are thinking of buying a dog or cat for the family or a loved one this Christmas.

Mayor Khal Asfour said while there were only 14 pets available, it was important homes were found.

“We have had tremendous success finding new families for pets as part of our Pet of the Week campaign, with the Torch newspaper and Paws and Claws at Milperra,” he said.

“While more than 250 dogs and cats were returned to their owners this year, after finding their way to our shelter, some are not identifiable and need to find new homes,” he said.

“Since our Pet of the Week campaign started 12 months ago, more than 30 cats and dogs have found new families.”

Chester Hill resident, Adrian Kurdi, adopted a one-year-old staffy named Pistol from the shelter last month.

“We couldn’t be happier with him,” Mr Kurdi said.

“Pistol is a quiet dog who loves to run and play, and has settled in well into our family.

“I’d recommend everyone to give a shelter pet a go.”

All dogs and cats at the shelter come desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and worm and flea treated – ready for residents to take home and love.
