Dogs in temporary care at the Ballarat Animal Shelter are set for a very merry Christmas thanks to the generosity of local dog lovers.
The Ballarat Dog Obedience Club organised a Christmas collection through their club, with members and local dog owners coming together to donate goods to assist shelter staff provide for the needs of dogs currently in temporary care at the shelter.
This afternoon, Ballarat Dog Obedience Club President Michael Leehane and Secretary Pat Fuhrmeister will present the gifts to the Ballarat Animal Shelter which will go a long way in caring for the many dogs currently waiting adoption or being nursed back to health.
Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh said many neglected animals are often brought into the Ballarat Animal Shelter, many underweight and almost all of them are scared.
“The Shelter’s dedicated staff spend quality time nursing these animals back to health, providing them the best possible new start on life before they can be re-homed,” she said.
“But we could not do this without the community's support.
“We would like to say thank you to the Ballarat Dog Obedience Club who have donated treats, toys and blankets to help our most vulnerable.”
This generous donation adds to the growing partnership between the Ballarat Animal Shelter and Ballarat Dog Obedience Club, who continue to work together to promote responsible pet ownership through the services they provide within the municipality.
In the New Year the two organisations will add to their offerings through the development of new joint programs, including a dog walking program.
