The Miners Rest community will gather to celebrate its revamped local asset – the Miners Rest Community Park play space – at a special event today.

For the past six years, the community has worked with the City of Ballarat’s Engaged Communities team to improve this much-loved community park in a bid to create a space that the entire community can enjoy.

The City of Ballarat held community consultation sessions in the park and with pupils at the Miners Rest Primary School to help create a place space that catered to the needs of families and children.

The Miners Rest Community Park now provides a range of spaces, equipment and points of interest for the wider community, encouraging residents to play, exercise and connect with their neighbours and their neighbourhood.

The $145,000 works, fully-funded by the City of Ballarat, have created a more engaging reserve that is already proving popular with residents and visitors.

Revitalisation works for upgrading the play space include:

A flying fox  Climbing frame  Accessible spinning equipment  New plants  Installation of a platform and posts  Upgrading edging around the play equipment and pathway.

The initiative is one of a number of community-led projects being delivered in Ballarat as part of the City of Ballarat’s Engaging Communities Program.
