Council has thrown its support behind a diverse range of community initiatives to be awarded funding under the Community Capacity Building Grants program.
The projects cover raising awareness about domestic violence, providing career and family support for newly arrived migrants and promoting local ceramic artists.
“Community groups play an important role in our growing city. Their members band together to support and help each other, improve our wellbeing and enrich our community spirit,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“It is important that we support community driven initiatives that serve our residents across a broad sector,” Cr Brticevic said.
The Tej Gyan Global Foundation will receive a $5000 project grant for its Empower Yourself, Train your Body, Mind and Thoughts project, which will support community members to participate in a series of workshops to promote good physical and mental wellbeing.
The Multicultural Society of Campbelltown, Airds Bradbury Men’s Shed, Campbelltown Community Garden, Macarthur Ceramics Group and CUETians in Australia Inc will each receive a $500 seeding grant.
The Multicultural Society of Campbelltown will develop a Create Harmony in Life event to be held during the 15 Days of Action against family and domestic violence in 2019.
The project will bring the Bangladeshi, Indian, Nepalese, Sri Lankan and other sub-continent communities together to increase awareness to identify domestic and family violence.
Airds Bradbury Men’s Shed plans to buy a tow bar for its ute so it can collect, repair and deliver upcycled furniture, lawnmowers and other projects to people and community groups.
Campbelltown Community Garden will buy a water controller system to increase the water efficiency in its garden.
Macarthur Ceramics Group plans to use its grant to create an inaugural workshop series and exhibition to promote the work and social connection of ceramics artists in the region.
CUETians in Australia Inc will create a career session, newcomer reception and family get-together to provide information and support to newly arrived residents on how to apply their overseas academic and professional qualifications, mainly in the engineering field.
In addition, Council will pilot a grants round of funding with a total of $12,500 available this financial year for new and emerging community groups to run small place-based activities and programs.
The pilot program will offer grants of between $1,000 and $2,000 and will be advertised in the new year.
