More residents in Minto now have improved access to public transport in the Macarthur region after two bus services were reinstated through the suburb this morning.
Council has been working with Transport NSW and Interline Bus Services to reinstate the bus services to travel along Pendergast Ave and Elizabeth McRae Ave, Minto, from Thursday 20 December.
These services, Routes 870 and 871, are part of the Campbelltown to Liverpool and return bus services.
The routes were temporarily changed during the redevelopment of the Minto One housing estate.
The buses were diverted along Townson Ave during the construction period, which included realignment of Pendergast Ave and Elizabeth McRae Ave.
“Reinstating the 870 and 871 bus routes through the two streets will be welcomed by residents in Minto, especially in the lead up to the Christmas and summer holiday period,’’ Mayor George Brticevic said.
“The re-established routes will service a wider area of Minto and continue to have the same destinations,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
“There will be two bus stops in each direction on the two reinstated streets.
“Residents will be able to catch the bus from a stop near their home and the service will then travel through our region, to train stations and shopping centres and on to Campbelltown or Liverpool.’’
The existing Route 872 will continue to operate along Townson Ave, Minto, without any changes.
Cr Brticevic said accessible public transport was very important in a liveable city.
“Accessible public transport gives people the option of travelling to work, the shops and leisure activities as well as to visit family and friends without relying on their cars,’’ he said.
“This will reduce traffic congestion and the number of vehicles on our roads.’’
