Council closures over Christmas / New Year break

Wollongong City Council’s Customer Service Centre will close at 5pm on Friday 21 December and reopen on Tuesday 2 January 2019.

Over the break, there will be some changes to key Council services. However, our after-hours number for Council-related emergencies will remain operational and you can reach us on (02) 4227 7111.

Below is a list of Council’s services over the break.

Waste Collection: Bins should be put out as normal. Council’s Waste Contractor, Remondis, will not be picking up rubbish on Christmas Day, but bins are due to be collected the following day. For issues regarding damaged bins or missed services, please call Remondis, on 1300 362 360.

Beaches: All beaches will be open across the break, subject to sea conditions. On December 25, 26, 2018 and 1 January, 2019 beaches will be patrolled by Surf Life Saving Illawarra.

Botanic Garden: Closed 25 December, 2018.

Crematorium and Cemeteries: Office closed 25, 26, 29 December 2018 and 1 January 2019. All crematoriums and cemetery grounds will be open during daylight hours every day, including public holidays.

Graffiti Services: All graffiti reports can be lodged via the Council website or the after-hours contact number during the closure period. Any reports of offensive graffiti will still be actioned as normal in accordance with our graffiti removal policy.

Leisure Centres: For details of Beaton Park and Lakeside Leisure Centres’ opening hours over the break, please visit our website.

Libraries: Corrimal, Dapto, Thirroul, Warrawong, Helensburgh and Unanderra Libraries will close at 1pm on 24 December, 2018 and reopen on 2 January, 2019. Wollongong Central Library will close at 1pm on 24 December, 2018 and reopen from 9am-5pm 27, 28 and 31 December, 2018. Normal hours resume on Tuesday 2 January 2019.

Public Swimming Pools: Closed 25 December, 2018 only.

Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Park (Whytes Gully): Closed 25 December, 2018.

Wollongong Youth Services: Closed from Friday 21 December 2018 and will reopen Wednesday 2 January 2019.

Wollongong Art Gallery: Closed on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 December, 2018 and Tuesday 1 January 2019.  The Gallery is closed to the public every Monday.
