Campaspe Shire Council has again partnered with Parks Victoria in providing skips for camper’s waste in advance of the holiday season.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said skips have been placed at various locations to support the responsible disposal of camper’s waste, to ensure it is not left in the natural bushland and river areas.

“Each holiday season waste is left in and around camp sites,” Cr Weston said.

“While many of the river areas are managed by Parks Victoria, it leaves the clean-up for our residents or other campers, impacting the enjoyment by all.”

“Waste that is left behind can easily wash or blow into the river system and has a detrimental effect to our native fish and other river dwelling animals.”

Council and Parks Victoria staff have met and coordinated waste disposal services through to the end of January. There are a number of additional services in place to make it easy and convenient for campers to do the right thing with their rubbish.

Large skip bins have been placed at:

Echuca East boat ramp Victoria Park boat ramp Torrumbarry Roadhouse Gunbower Recreation Reserve, and O’Dwyer Road

All skips will be emptied regularly.

“We appreciate that most campers do the right thing in disposing of their rubbish, however some unfortunately do not, leaving rubbish behind at campsites or dumped in the bush or along the roadside on their way out,” Cr Weston said.

In addition to the skip bins, council schedules extra clearances of regular litter bins and Vivid assists council with weekly litter pick-ups during busy periods. Parks Victoria also picks up waste dumped between the Murray Valley Highway and bushland areas.

Campers also have the option to dispose of pre-sorted waste for free at any of the shire’s eight transfer stations. If loads are not pre-sorted, a fee will be charged. Transfer station locations and opening hours are available on council’s website.
