Essential Council services will still be operating despite the official Christmas closure, according to Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio.
“I want to assure the public that if anyone is in need of an essential service provided by Council during the Christmas break there will be someone to answer your call or attend to an emergency,” Mayor Antonio said.
“To let our staff celebrate the season and spend time with family and friends our Christmas and New Year close-down will commence from 5pm Friday 21 December 2018. Staff will return on Wednesday 2 January 2018.”
“Christmas is a time for being with family and I encourage Council staff to enjoy their break.”
“There will be some exemptions to the Christmas closures and these include:
- Council’s functional areas where employees will be on duty to work on priority projects, supervise CBD parking, perform ongoing maintenance, or deal with essential and emergency situations will still be available; and - Public facilities (aquatic, fitness, library etc.) where services are required to be delivered to the public.”“While our Customer Service offices will be closed for Christmas, if you need to contact Council in the case of an emergency please phone 131 872 and your call will be answered.”
“Some services will remain unaffected during this time.”
“Council’s kerbside waste collection continues as normal over the Christmas break. Services will be earlier on Christmas Day and so put your bins out the night before to make sure you don’t miss collection. ”
“CBD street cleaning will operate as normal.”
“Council owned recreational facilities and libraries with some adjustments will be open for business.”
“If you are concerned about any of the service operations during the Christmas closure please call us on 131 872 or visit our website www.tr.qld.gov.au/christmashours”.
