“You don’t have to worry about getting everyone packed and ready to go. You can have a sleep in, plan your activities at your own pace and still have time to enjoy a day out with your family and friends,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
Campbelltown is home to the Dharawal National Park, near Wedderburn, to immerse residents in the unique Australian bushland on our doorstep.
The national park is a magical place to spend the day and home to walking and bike tracks, native flora and fauna, scenic waterfalls and rock pools.
Make sure you explore the Minerva Pools Walking Track and the O’Hares Creek lookout walking track. You can also pack a picnic basket and bring the binoculars for a closer look at the bird and animal life.
Explore the national park at your own pace for free or join the Summer Sensory Walk, a guided tour which will be held on 19 January. This walk costs $10 and people can book their spot by phoning 4645 4921 or visiting www.macarthur.com.au
The Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan is home to native animal and birdlife, walking tracks, 20km of cycling paths and roadways, lakeside lawns, picnic and barbecue areas and large contemporary sculptures. Entry is free.
Take a tour of the onsite Australian PlantBank and its laboratories and seed vault to see where millions of NSW flora are stored for preservation into the future.
Campbelltown Arts Centre is our region’s cultural hub and is well worth a visit, with free entry daily.
The artistic program includes dance, exhibitions, music, performances and live art while the public program features workshops, talks and events for adults, children and young people.
While exploring the Arts Centre, don’t forget to take in the tranquillity of the Japanese gardens, visit the koi fish pond or enjoy brunch, lunch or coffee and cake at the Arts Centre Café.
If your staycation time is limited you can see these places in one spot through the Campbelltown Virtual Reality Experience.

Families can also cool off and enjoy a variety of inflatable water slides when Water Wonderland opens at Bradbury Park from 29 December 2018 to 28 January 2019. Entry starts at $30 each or $25 online.
A range of fun, healthy and educational activities for school children from 5-18 years of age are also on offer at Council’s child care centres, Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre, libraries and leisure centres from 2-25 January 2019.
