Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting the community to share their story about the building at number 174 Margaret Street where the new Laneway will stand. Council is asking people to provide feedback on the draft concept to help shape the plan for the new laneway that is in the heart of the CBD at 174 Margaret Street.
TRC Planning and Development Committee portfolio leader Cr Anne Glasheen said the new laneway will provide an important future connection from Margaret Street through to Jessie Street, Annand Street businesses and public car parks.
“Additionally, the draft concept plan includes public amenities, weather protection, space for community markets and events, opportunities to incorporate public art, wayfinding information and green, leafy areas to stop and sit,” Cr Glasheen said.
“We’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts on the new laneway. We would also like to hear your stories and memories and see any images that capture the essence of 174 Margaret Street.
“You can provide feedback on the draft concept plan and share your memories, stories and images until 5pm on January 31, 2019.
“The community responses will help create an identity for the new laneway and guide the development of the final concept plan,” Cr Glasheen said.
"The draft concept plan is available for viewing on Council’s Your Say webpage https://yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au/laneway and at 174 Margaret Street.
“The draft concept plan has been developed in consultation with Margaret Street businesses, the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, the City Heart CBD Focus Group, the Queensland Police Service, the Toowoomba Architects Group and the Queensland Urban Design and Place Panel.
“Council will consider community feedback before finalising the concept plan in early 2019.’
The delivery of the Margaret Street Laneway is a key outcome of the Toowoomba City Centre Master Plan.
