- City of Ballarat Chief Executive Officer Justine Linley
The City of Ballarat is pleased to see the reiteration of the State Government’s commitment to funding $14 million towards 1000 car parking spaces in Ballarat in today’s media statement.
At the invitation of Regional Development Victoria (RDV), City of Ballarat CEO Justine Linley and Council officers attended a round table discussion on Thursday 20 December 2018 with the Acting Regional Director Grampians RDV and the Chief Executives of both Commerce Ballarat and Committee for Ballarat.
While there was no definitive position advised by RDV in relation to sites or methods of implementing the Andrews’ Government commitment for 1000 new spaces, there was an opportunity for those present to put forward thoughts and views.
At the conclusion of the round table discussion, the need for other state agencies and Ballarat CBD stakeholders to be involved in any future meetings and discussions was agreed upon.
These groups included local health services, VicTrack, VicRoads and Public Transport Victoria. It is anticipated that any further consultation, if it is to occur, will be coordinated by RDV.
Council is committed to work with RDV to get the best possible result for the community, business and the city in relation to car parking.
It is important for us to all understand the State Government’s parking announcement in advance of Council adopting the final city-wide car parking strategy in the New Year.
The preliminary discussions held yesterday at the round table have moved us a little further forward in relation to that understanding but it is still early days.
