East Gippsland Shire Council is offering grants to encourage and support communities to put on events that benefit the community during the extended period of drought.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said it is hoped these events provide an opportunity for people to take their minds off their worries for a short time.
“Events have a great role in encouraging social connections. For this grant program, we’re looking to support events that help reduce social isolation and build community resilience for drought-affected communities,” Cr O’Connell said.
Unlike other grant opportunities, applicants do not need to match the value of the grant with their own funds.
Grants of up to $2000 are available, with council administrating the funding as part of the Community Resilience Program funded by Regional Development Victoria.
“There is no closing date for this grant program, it will close when the funds have been exhausted,” Cr O’Connell said.
“I encourage people and communities across the shire to think about events they may be able to organise and put their application forward.
"The criteria is broad, however there is a focus on communities organizing a celebration, with funding to help with venue hire, catering and entertainment.”
