Cairns residents are reminded to register for Cairns Alert, an emergency notification system that will provide immediate advice to residents about acute weather conditions or self-evacuation.
Cairns Alert is an emergency message service that can deliver advice via email, SMS and voice message.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair Cr Terry James said Cairns Alert was now an important part of Council’s disaster communications.
“This service will provide urgent advice directly to residents when they need to know what is happening in their local area,” he said.
“It is a service specifically for the Cairns region, helping our community to be informed and prepared in any disaster situation.
“This is an opt-in service, so alerts will be sent only to those who have registered to receive them.
“The easiest way to sign up is by clicking the link on the Cairns Disaster Dashboard. It takes less than a minute to complete the registration.”
The Cairns Disaster Dashboard provides information on weather conditions, emergency advice, road closures, social media feeds, flood camera images, power outages and more.
Access the Cairns Disaster Dashboard and sign up for Cairns Alert at www.disaster.cairns.qld.gov.au.
