Cairns families will be able to swing together with a new ‘expression swing’ installed at Loridan Drive Reserve in Brinsmead.
Expression swings have two seats – one suitable for toddlers and the other for older kids or adults – that face each other, allowing swingers to literally see the expression on each other’s faces.
Division 6 Councillor Linda Cooper said she expected the new piece of playground equipment would be well used by families in the region.
“A local mum contacted me via Facebook suggesting an expression swing would be good for Brinsmead. I’m certain the expression swing will get a solid work out,” Cr Cooper said.
“We know it’s important that children and their caregivers actively play together. This equipment will make that easier while keeping families active, which can only be good for overall health and wellbeing.
“It’s great that we can trial an expression swing in what is a very busy and well-loved park.”
The $10,000 swing was funded from Cr Cooper’s discretionary fund. If it proves popular, Council will consider installing additional expression swings in other suburban parks.
