A deteriorating section of Kargotich Road in Oldbury will soon be restored thanks to contributions from the State Government and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.

Councillors this week accepted a $335,600 funding offer from the Regional Road Group, conditional on the project being delivered before the end of the 2018/19 financial year.

The Shire will contribute more than $167,000 towards restoring the 900m stretch of road between Leipold Road and Mundijong Road, which has been deteriorating due to erosion and natural wear.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said works would significantly improve the road surface, extending its life and making it safer for motorists.

“Improving the condition of local roads is a responsibility we take seriously, and recently it became pretty clear that this particular section needed attention,” Cr Rich.

“So with help from the Regional Road Group, we’ve decided to act now before the condition deteriorates to a point where it becomes dangerous.

“Works will mainly be done to the road’s surface to ensure water can’t seep underneath and erode its foundation. This’ll not only improve the condition in the short term but also mean further repairs won’t be needed until well into the future.”

A contractor will be appointed in the New Year, with work to begin thereafter.
