More than $13,500 will be shared between two community organisations who were this week named recipients of Community Grants from the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.
As part of Round One of the Shire’s 2018/19 Major Grant Scheme, the Serpentine Horse and Pony Club will receive $8,200 to improve their arena via enhancements to ground stability and an extension of perimeter fencing at the Serpentine Equestrian Sport Grounds.
A further $5,370 will be provided to the Byford Community Kindergarten for landscaping and irrigation works, as well as new turf and a pathway.
Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the Major Grants Scheme was a valuable way to support community groups who often operated with little outside funding.
“Anyone who’s a member of a sporting club or social group knows the valuable role they play in community life, and we feel it’s important to support them wherever possible,” Cr Rich said.
“Both the Serpentine Horse and Pony Club and Byford Community Kindergarten are worthy recipients and we look forward to these grants benefiting their members well into the future.”
Major grants are available to incorporated associations for infrastructure and programs on land owned, controlled, or vested to the Shire, that provide a direct benefit to the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale community. Applications are open year round and assessed twice a year in August and February, with more information available on the Shire’s website.
Meanwhile, Councillors have passed changes to the Shire’s Community Grants Policy, making the application process simpler and more streamlined. Minor and Events Grants will now be combined into a single General Grant of up to $5,000, while Major Grant applicants are no longer required to contribute 50 per cent of the total project cost.
