The safety and condition of several local footpaths is set to improve with the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale allocating more than $160,000 towards renewal and maintenance works.
Announced at a Special Council Meeting last month, $131,000 will be spent on path maintenance, with a further $31,000 earmarked for a new 250m path along Linton Street in Byford.
Renewal works will be undertaken along:
Paterson Street, Mundijong between Richardson Street and Livesey Street; Jarrahdale Road, Jarrahdale between Gooralong Brook Bridge and Oak Street; Keirnan Street, Mundijong between the Whitby Estate and the rail corridor at the intersection of Keirnan Street, Soldiers Road and Paterson Street.Axiis Contracting will undertake works, which are expected to begin in early 2019.
Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said it was important to maintain the condition of footpaths to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other path users.
“Like most pieces of infrastructure, pathways can deteriorate over time which means maintenance and renewal work is something we must always stay on top of,” Cr Rich said.
“There are over 62km of pathways throughout the Shire, and our Asset Management Plan helps identify those paths in greatest need of repair.
“It’s not possible to renew every stretch of path annually, however, should residents notice an area that needs attention, we’d like to know about it.”
