Former Diesel Apprentice Josiah Gaul received the Mobile Plant and Diesel Fitting Apprentice of the Year Award at the Queensland SkillsTech Apprentice Awards Night in Brisbane on 29 November.

The inaugural Queensland SkillsTech Apprentice of the Year Awards showcased the best of future tradespeople with the awards celebrating apprentices nominated by SkillsTech across 13 fields.

Josiah who completed his apprenticeship in early 2018 has since been employed fulltime with Western Downs Regional Council.

Mr Gaul is happy to have been recognised by SkillsTech for not only his work but his supporting teams.

“The training I received through SkillsTech was really great. The teachers know what they’re talking about and how to deliver it in a way that the students understand,” he said.

“I have to say a huge thank you to everyone in the workshop at Council for everything that they taught me over the four years of my apprenticeship”.

Council spokesperson for Corporate Services Councillor Ian Rasmussen said Council is proud of the recognition Josiah has received.

For Josiah to have been selected by SkillsTech out of over 9,000 apprentices to not only be nominated as a finalist but to also win is a testament to how hard he has worked”, he said.

We are proud to have such vibrant and dedicated people work for Council and this award not only represents how dedicated Josiah was to his apprenticeship but also the team around him.”

Josiah is the third tertiary student in the past two years who have received recognition for their studies along with Brianna Allen and Shyann Doyle.
