Solar farms to create 550 Western Downs jobs

After approving two more solar farms in the region, Western Downs Regional Council is creating more local employment opportunities. 

Ewerleigh Solar Park (150MW) and Edenvale Solar Park (280MW) have been approved along Kogan Condamine Road (20km south of Chinchilla) and will produce approximately 550 jobs throughout their construction phases.

These two projects bring the total number of approved solar farms to 17 since December 2015 as the Western Downs continues to cement its place as the centre for renewable energy industries in Queensland.

Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the new solar farms will help boost the region.

“Council is committed to expanding the energy sector of the Western Downs and clearly demonstrating that we are open for business,” he said.

“With $4 billion invested into solar farms in the last three years, we’ve established our place as leaders in the renewable energy sector in this state.

“While it’s a priority for us to strengthen the economic growth of the region, it’s just as important for us to ensure that the Western Downs is a great place to live, work and play. Increasing our local employment rate really encourages that.

“One of our biggest priorities is to develop our communities and creating over 500 jobs through these solar farms is a good step towards this.”

The construction of the solar farms is due to begin in 2020 to be operational by February 2021.
