Chinchilla to benefit from three new projects in 2019

Chinchilla will receive over $360,000 worth of works in the new year.

The Chinchilla Botanic Parklands, Big Melon and Charley’s Creek will benefit from Council’s 2018-19 Capital Works program.

With an expected opening of March 2019, the Chinchilla Botanic Parklands will have 18 CCTV cameras installed and public WiFi access available in several areas of the park.

Making the most of the increased number of tourists visiting the Big Melon, picnic tables and seating will be installed near the giant slice. When the sun goes down, LEDs illuminating the area and custom up-lights at the base of the Big Melon will provide the perfect photo opportunity.

A footpath network will connect the Big Melon to the Visitor Information Centre and Botanic Parklands, encouraging visitors to take a scenic stroll through the centre of town.

The two existing pedestrian bridges along Charley’s Creek will also be removed and replaced with new bridges.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said Council is proud to deliver these projects on behalf of the Chinchilla community.

“These projects are about the safety of our facilities and liveability of our region,” he said.

“Chinchilla has some fantastic attractions, so we want to maintain them to a standard so everyone can enjoy them now and well into the future.

“It’s great to see so many of our residents getting out and enjoying these spaces, and we want to keep it that way.”
