Last call for Australia Day Award 2019 nominations

Posted on January 3, 2019

Nominations for the annual Australia Day Awards close this Friday. Do not miss the chance to recognise your community hero or favourite community event.

Deputy Mayor Cr Gail Godwin-Smith said the time to nominate was now.

‘There are many reasons to nominate someone for one of the awards,’ she said.

‘It is not only a fantastic way to celebrate unsung heroes and young community champions, it can also make a real difference to someone’s life.

‘Take the sportsperson category for example, the award is a complementary reference for that person’s achievements and their commitment to the community and their sport.

‘For community events, an award may provide the icing on the cake when it comes to funding applications and promoting future events.’

With nominations closing this Friday, Central Highlands Regional Council is looking for a last spike in applications.

‘Last year we had 57 applications across the region, so far we have received around 20,’ Cr Godwin-Smith said.

‘I encourage people to visit council’s website and nominate now.’

Award winners will be announced at Australia Day celebrations around the region on 26 January 2019.
