There will be no shortage of activities to keep everyone busy this Australia Day, with townships across the region gearing up to celebrate on January 26.

Each year Council offer funds to regional not-for-profit community groups to host a local event that complements Council’s major Australia Day celebrations which, in 2019, will be hosted at Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands.

Acting Gladstone Region Mayor Chris Trevor said the funding helped regional townships celebrate Australia Day in a manner which reflected each of their communities.

“You just can’t go past a classic Aussie Day barbeque brekkie, which Yarwun, Builyan and Turkey Beach will all be serving up,” Councillor Trevor said.

“The smaller community celebrations are always a great community gathering and include all sorts of traditional Aussie and novelty events.”

Funding assistance is provided via Council’s Community Donations Program – Category 3 Regional Events Support – Australia Day.

The 2019 Council-supported community events are:

• Yarwun Grow Group – Australia Day Breakfast

• Captain Creek Community Sports & Recreation Club – Australia Day Celebration

• Builyan Many Peaks Community Development Assoc Inc – Australia Day Breakfast

• Turkey Beach Progress Assoc Inc – Australia Day Breakfast

• South End Progress Assoc Inc – Australia Day Celebration

• Mt Larcom Ladies Bowling Club Inc – Australia Day Celebration

Details regarding these regional events will be listed on Council’s website in coming weeks.
