Recent rain in the upper catchment of the Balonne River near Dalby and Chinchilla has boosted water supplies at St George allowing Council to drop residential water restrictions from Level 2 to Level 1 from Monday 14 January.
The change from Level 2 to Level 1 restrictions will see residential watering hours increase from 6-8am and 6-8pm to 5-9am and 5-9pm on allocated days. Schools, caravan parks and other businesses will also see an increase in hours.
Balonne Shire Mayor Richard Marsh said the boost to the town’s water reserves was most welcome.
“The E.J. Beardmore Dam was heading south of 30% before that rain and now it’s back up to more than 70%,” he said.
“It was great to see a run in the river and with that increased water availability we can relax the restrictions back to Level 1.”
