Emergency Relief Centre (CLOSED - ON STANDBY)

The Relief Centre at the Sale Baptist Church has currently been closed and placed in standby mode due to lack of demand. It has the capacity to be re-activated within 30 minutes if required.

Air Quality

Residents may be experiencing a considerable amount of smoke and debris in the air, caused by the Rosedale fire, which is still not under control.

There are some important messages you need to know about smoke inhalation as a result of the fire and smoke.

The Environment Protection Authority has not put out any advisory alerts regarding air quality in the affected areas, however any air quality health queries can be made through EPA’s customer service centre by calling 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC).

If you can smell smoke, please note:

Smoke can affect people's health.  People with heart or lung conditions (including asthma), children, pregnant women and older people are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke.  People with existing heart or lung conditions (including asthma) should follow the treatment plan advised by the doctor.

Health information:

If you cannot smell smoke, you are not likely to be exposed to smoke and it will therefore not affect you.

Household Water If you rely on a water tank for household water consumption, your water could come contaminated by debris, ash and fire retardants.  You should also not source water from a creek that has been affected by bushfire, as the water may be contaminated. Water drawn from deep bores or wells should be safe to use.  For detailed information about how to protect your household water source, visit www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/bushfires-and-water-tanks
