In collaboration with Byron Shire Council, Byron Community College is running a new Future Youth Program designed to give 17 to 24 year olds practical pre-employment experience and increase their chances of finding quality employment in the region – and it’s free!
“We’re putting the call out to young people in the area to enrol in the Future Youth Program for 2019 and take advantage of this unique, on-the-ground skill-building experience that really will make a difference in whatever career path they choose in the future,” Council’s Manager People and Culture, Kylie Armstrong said.
The Future Youth Program is a mix of class-based learning provided by Byron Community College and work experience provided by Byron Shire Council with the course running from February to June, 2019. It covers valuable skills in customer service, conflict management, digital technology, online record keeping, communication, teamwork and problem solving.
“The program is made up of 32 sessions and participants will be invited to have a 'taste' of some of the many areas that Council works in and experience a number of different skill sets,” Ms Armstrong said.
“Students can choose to gain work experience in Childcare, Customer Service, Construction & Maintenance, Waste & Recycling, Procurement, People & Culture, Open Spaces Better Byron and Community Enforcement,” Ms Armstrong said.
The course comprises two days a week of class sessions (10am to 3.30pm) plus a work experience component.
This is a free course, funded by the NSW Government.
