Cessnock celebrates Australia day all weekend

All members of our community are invited to join in on a weekend of celebrations from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 January.

We have three days of FREE activities for everyone to enjoy including a screening of an iconic Aussie movie, welcoming Australia’s newest citizens, recognising those in our community who go above and beyond and enjoying the third annual Mayoral Cup Cricket. We’ll finish off the weekend with free entry to Cessnock Pool and a BBQ.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent is looking forward to the festivities and encourages the community to get involved.

“We are excited to be running this year’s celebration that has been extended to three days of fun. What a fantastic few days we have planned to celebrate this great country we live in.”

We kick off this Aussie bonanza with a screening of the beloved “The Castle” at CPAC on Friday evening. Make sure you grab a seat by 6:30pm.

On Saturday we begin with a Citizenship Ceremony followed by Australia Day Awards at the East Cessnock Bowling Club from 10am to 12noon.

The official proceedings will be followed by the Mayoral Cup Cricket at East End Oval. Don’t forget to grab your zinc and hats because you won’t want to miss this one. The day on the pitch will see the Cessnock District Cricket Association’s Twenty20 finals take place.

Sunday is time to relax at the Cessnock Pool with free entry from 9am. Residents will be able to cool off with a swim and enjoy a bite to eat at the free BBQ Breakfast.

Come along to a fantastic weekend of family friendly events and celebrate what makes Cessnock such a special place to live. Share your Australia Day moments by tagging photos on Facebook and Twitter with #AustraliaDay and #Cessnock. For more information visit our website www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au
