Our City’s creative and cultural landscape is evolving. Creative Wollongong, the draft Cultural Plan, sets out how Council will support local artists and creative industries, encourage live music, activate our City after dark and celebrate our suburbs.
The draft Creative Wollongong 2019-2024 document will be on public exhibition from 8 January to 12 February 2019.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that arts, heritage and culture play an important role in our City.
“Arts, heritage and culture bring people together. They provide ways for us to celebrate our identity, encourage learning and provide new opportunities for employment” he said.
Creative Wollongong builds on the work of the previous Cultural Plan 2014- 2018, which has guided Council to support and celebrate arts, heritage and culture in Wollongong over the past four years.
The draft plan was informed by an extensive community and internal engagement process that captured the priorities, thoughts and ideas of more than 796 local creatives, community members, business owners and Council staff.
The draft plan has four broad focus areas: creative life; creative community; creative spaces and places; and our City after dark.
