Keep your Friday nights free. The Pop Up Bar returns this February

The City of Kingston is bringing the Pop Up Bar back to the Kingston City Hall every Friday evening from 5pm till late this February. Enjoy live music, DJs, free kids’ workshops, roving performers, gallery exhibitions, gourmet food trucks and more in the arts precinct on Nepean Highway in Moorabbin.

Experience a great line up of music acts that are sure to have you up on your feet and dancing with classic rock, blues, soul, and the 60s covered by an outstanding range of local acts. DJ Mick Jabber will be joining us each week with his unique mix of musical influences ranging from Toto's Africa to Marvin Gaye, D’Angelo, The Roots, Pink Floyd, Otis Redding and Bob Marley. DJ Jabber’s sets are as infectious as they are diverse. 

Roaming performers will be entertaining the crowds, with headline act Cath Jamison, Australia’s top female magician. Over the four weeks the City of Kingston will host a great range of free workshops for the kids to enjoy, including pom-pom making, weaving and darning, magical and wand making workshops. With music, entertainment and activities for the kids covered, we haven’t forgotten to cater for your tummy, with a great range of gourmet food trucks on site including The Greek Trojan Yiros and Yo India serving up dinner in style.

Highlights include: 

Multi-award-winning blues musician Jimi Hocking performs tonight with his band the Blues Machine. In the galleries, join us for the opening of Crafty Queers, part of the Midsumma Festival from 6:30pm. For the kids, artist John Brooks will be hosting a fun and hands-on workshop, plus pom-pom making with Urban Yarn Art.  

If music from the 60s, R&B, garage, freakbeat and psychedelia is your thing, then Thee Marshmallow Overcoat are going to amaze you. Come with us and time-travel back to the mid-sixties for a fabulous evening of classic hits. For the kids, we have Urban Yarn Art and artist John Brooks both hosting workshops to keep little ones entertained. 

Tonight Nikki Nicholls with Boys performs a great mix of Soul, Blues and Classic Rock anthems together with current hits. Old school classics from AC/DC, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Pretenders, Prince, Rolling Stones, and many more. Magician Cath Jamison will be hosting a free magic workshop.

Set to rock Pop Up Bar for the 4th year, Dirty Laundry returns to serves up their songs in the manner that they should be. Live, full of energy and with a heavy dose of accuracy and passion.  Magician Cath Jamison will be inspiring budding ‘Harry Potters’ to create magical wands in the gallery.
