People interested in Byron Shire Council, local issues and our community are asked to register to help build a Byron Model of representative, deliberative and trusted democracy.
This follows on from the work Council did in 2018 with the newDemocracy Foundation which formed the Community Solutions Panel to develop infrastructure priorities for the next four years.
Anna Vinfield, Council’s Manager Corporate Services, said the Byron Model is about developing a process for members of the community to be involved in decision-making in a way that creates trust.
“Council is again working with the newDemocracy Foundation to develop the Byron Model which will find a solution to the question – how do we want to make democratic decisions in Byron Shire that can be widely supported?” Ms Vinfield said.
“We want to get our residents more involved in decision-making so they can work alongside Councillors to make decisions on issues that affect the community,” Ms Vinfield said.
The newDemocracy Foundation will randomly select a group of 21 people from a pool of people who have registered their interest in helping to develop the Byron Model.
People can register to be involved in the development of the Byron Model by online at https://www.newdemocracy.com.au/rsvp/ but they must be available to attend all six sessions on:
• Wednesday 6 February, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
