The City of Ballarat and the Communication Access Network has developed a guide for children wanting to explore Ballarat’s award-winning Victoria Park Inclusive Play Space. 

The 19-page guide, available online at news.ballarat.vic.gov.au, provides an insight for families, including those with children on the autism spectrum, into the range of activities available at the play space for children of all abilities. You can access the guide here.

The $1.4 million Victoria Park Inclusive Play Space opened in 2016. It spans about 10,000 fenced, square metres, features multiple play zones and accessible equipment designed for people with all abilities, with a double flying fox, multiple swings, slides, a carousel and a year-round passive/imaginative water play precinct. 

It also includes shade shelters, barbecues, picnic tables and a Changing Places toilet and change facility. 

The Inclusive Play Space features design elements that replicate traditional playgrounds while enabling children of all abilities to participate, including a ramp that provides views from the main structure, a flying fox with harness support and a carousel that enables wheelchair and pram access. 

This popular play space, which attracted 160,000 people last year, was formally recognised with an LGPro Award for Excellence in 2017.
