A number of events are being held across Cardinia Shire for the community to enjoy this Australia Day, Saturday 26 January.
Cardinia Shire Council’s annual Australia Day ceremony will be held at Cardinia Cultural Centre, 40 Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham, from 11am to 12pm.
Council will proudly present the Australia Day 2019 Award winners and welcome our newest citizens in a special Australia Day citizenship ceremony.
Free activities will be provided after the ceremonies from 12pm to 4pm, with the generous support of local businesses and organisations. Food will also be available to purchase at the event.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Graeme Moore will announce the award nominees and winners in this year’s categories, which include:
Citizen of the Year Senior Citizen of the Year Young Citizen of the Year Community Event of the YearMayor Cr Moore said the day’s activities will be a great opportunity to celebrate the strength and diversity of the Cardinia Shire community.
“We are very fortunate to be a part of such a welcoming, inclusive and diverse community. There are always lots of people helping to make our shire a better place to live,” Cr Moore said.
“This Australia Day, it will be an honour for me to help shine the spotlight on some of those outstanding people and events that have contributed to the strength of our shire, and to welcome our new citizens.
“Like many others, I am looking forward to joining friends, family and the wider community to celebrate what we love about our shire and what it means to be an Australian today,” Cr Moore said.
