Owner of Gleeson Quality Meats Clinton Smith is excited for this year’s competition.
Western Downs Regional Council has opened the 2019 Flavour It Your Way competition and residents are encouraged to submit their ultimate flavour ideas for public judging this Australia Day.
The crowd favourite sausage sizzle competition is returning to Chinchilla for the fourth time and this year will also be kicking off in Dalby, Miles and Tara as part of regional Australia Day celebrations.
Residents are invited to submit their sausage flavour ideas to their local butcher. The most popular flavour will be cooked locally and judged by the community on Australia Day.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is looking forward to tasting the entries at the community sausage sizzles this year.
“Australia Day is definitely a highlight and our region is home to some of the finest local produce on the Darling Downs, so what better way to celebrate than with an authentic Western Downs sausage sizzle competition with our very own unique flavours,” she said.
“If you’re not a master chef you can wait until the day to taste test the top snags on offer and then have your say and vote for your favourite.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing our communities come together to celebrate at our Aussie day events – it will be a fantastic day for everyone.”
The sausage sizzle competition is always a hit in Chinchilla and owner of Gleeson Quality Meats Clinton Smith is excited to see what the community comes up with this year.
“People are really creative with this competition and it keeps me and my team very interested – we brainstorm ideas to see what we can do. In previous years we’ve had people come in weeks later asking for the winning sausage flavour,” he said.
“It’s all about getting the community together and we get a lot of interesting entries – it’s awesome, I love it.”
Chinchilla residents Adele Brewer (pork, white chocolate and sultana), Chloe Wright (vegemite and cheese) and Cody Grealy (chicken, cheese and gravy) have taken out the title in previous years with their creative flavours.
