Youngsters and adults are invited to explore their artistic side with a range of classes, workshops and courses now being offered at
Enrolments are now open for Wyreena’s Term 1 program of creative and lifestyle courses, which run from early February through to April 2019.
Each term, Wyreena Community Arts Centre offers a range of short and regular courses in the creative arts that are tailored for absolute beginners through to the more advanced.
Wyreena’s program includes courses in drawing, painting, pottery, mosaics, yoga, Pilates and more, as well as one-day maker’s workshops, one-day programs for adults with special needs, and age-streamed children’s arts program conveniently held after school hours during school terms.
Children aged five to seven can explore the Young Artist’s Studio using mixed media, as well as learn how to draw. There’s also drawing, painting and pottery classes for children aged eight and over, and an intermediate program designed for teens aged 11 years and over.
A new pastels course has been introduced for Term 1, aimed at adult beginners and for those wanting to brush up on their skills using this medium. The nine-week course offers a step-by-step still life introduction, covering tone, colour and technique.
For something calming and restorative, there are classes in yoga, Pilates and meditation, including Slow Flow Yoga for those wanting to exercise at a slower pace due to age, injury or recovering from illness, as well as an opportunity to enjoy the sunshine with Yoga in the Park.
There are also art, craft and pottery classes that are specifically developed for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, which empowers people to explore art alongside their carer.
Plus, there’s an exciting range of one-day maker’s workshops this term, spanning basket making, life drawing, creating wall hanging terracotta planters, and shibori – the ancient Japanese art of tie-dye.
Wyreena’s 2019 Term 1 brochure is now available to view and download online, or pick up a free copy at any one of Council’s service centre locations, or at Wyreena Community Arts Centre.
