Charters Towers will welcome Australia Day Ambassador Carmel Crouch to the region for the Australia Day award ceremony and Australia Day activities.
Carmel is a distinguished business woman and community leader known for her work in building capacity and empowering individuals and communities towards independence.
A long-time advocate for people with a disability, Carmel has worked for more than thirty years developing programs and services that provide people with a disability with equal opportunities for employment, housing, happiness, and health and wellbeing.
As Managing Director of STEPS Group of companies, Carmel’s focus on strategic partnerships has been key to supporting positive outcomes for individuals and establishing stronger communities.
“We’re very excited and pleased to welcome Carmel to Charters Towers for the 2019 Australia Day activities. Her visit will allow residents to hear from and meet a very passionate, dedicated and inspiring Australian. Having her participate in our awards this year should be one of the highlights,” Mayor Liz Schmidt said.
As part of her visit to Charters Towers, Carmel will visit with local groups, tour local landmarks and present the keynote address at the Charters Towers Australia Day award ceremony as part of her duties as an Australia Day Ambassador.
The Australia Day Ambassador program sends high achieving Australians to over 300 community celebrations nationwide every Australia Day. Ambassadors are past recipients of the Australian of the Year Awards, sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors and community workers who provide inspiration and pride to Australia Day events and activities.
The Australia Day award ceremony will be held on Friday 25 January 2019, at the World Theatre from 7pm to 9pm.
