Liverpool families will be able to enjoy free films on the first Friday of every month in 2019, with Movies in the Mall.

Kicking off with Finding Nemo on 4 January, families can look forward to screenings of Spirited Away on 1 February, Karate Kid on 1 March and Rise of the Guardians on 5 April.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller was thrilled to see how many people came to see Finding Nemo.

“I’m so proud to see families enjoying Macquarie Mall,” Mayor Waller said.

“As our city grows and changes, it’s important that we ensure it remains a place where the community can come together and enjoy life.

“We do this with big events, like our Australia Day celebrations at Woodward Park, but also through the many smaller events we hold at our Libraries, parks and recreation centres throughout the year.

“Movies in the Mall is something families can do for free, getting out of their house and into the community.”

Families can head to Macquarie Mall at 6.30pm, grab a bite to eat from a food truck, pull up a deck chair or beanbag and enjoy the film. All films will be G or PG rated.

“We’re screening a few older family movies, like Karate Kid, so parents can share their favourites with their children,” Mayor Waller said.
