Council aids Team Rubicon's bushfire recovery effort

Armed with gloves, dust masks, shovels and a can-do attitude, Team Rubicon Australia has been leading a community focused recovery mission aiding those affected by the 2018 CQ Bushfires. 

Team Rubicon Australia unites the skills and experiences of Australian Defence Force veterans and first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams around the globe.

Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Chris Trevor said though the road to recovery is a tough one, it has been made a little easier with the ‘overwhelming support’ received from the Team Rubicon Australia volunteers. 

“They have done an amazing job within the Deepwater area, and helped so many residents in more ways than one,” Councillor Trevor said. 

“For many, it is this period after a disaster where knowing your next steps can be difficult, but Team Rubicon Australia have provided some direction for many residents.”  

Gladstone Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Leisa Dowling thanked Team Rubicon Australia for the support they have provided to our community.

“I have witnessed firsthand the brilliant guidance, support and shear grunt work they have provided those affected by the bushfires,” Leisa said.

“Council was happy to support Team Rubicon where necessary.”

Team Rubicon Mission Commander Adam Moss said it had been so humbling to come into a community so willing to lend a hand in this time of need.

“We can’t help you build, we can’t fix your roof, but we can come in here and help you get the tough work done,” Adam said. 

“We don’t give a hand-out, we give a hand-up.

“We cannot thank Gladstone Regional Council enough for the support they have given us throughout this process, as we couldn’t have done it without them.”
